The purpose of this blog is for viewers celebrate the passion and tradition of the epic daytime series One Life to Live. Created by Agnes Nixon, the show debuted on July 15, 1968 and has explored many social issues including (but certainly not limited to) discrimination based on class, race, and sexual orientation. The show also has a long tradition of raising awareness about many health concerns.
Articles contributed to this blog will be mostly character-specific in nature, and written by fans who have a deep understanding of the nature and history of the characters they are discussing. Contributors will explore current story lines and discuss the motivations and thoughts of characters in a way that makes them more understandable to fans of other characters. Contributors may also explore story lines that are more historic in nature to explain how they pertain to what is currently happening on the show.
For example:
- An article might explain events in a character’s past or memories a character might have to give a more clear understanding of the significance of events that are happening to them now, or thoughts they might currently be having.
- An article might discuss how a character justifies their current actions and/or behavior.
- An article might give insight into a character’s issues and/or relationships with other characters and how that affects dilemmas and situations they are currently facing.
Contributors are people who watch the show from week to week and have a clear understanding of not only their favorite characters, but also what is happening in and around the town of Llanview and how their character would respond to those events.
Most importantly, this blog is to be a respectful and unbiased blog.
- Contributors will not “trash” or disrespect characters that they or their favorite character dislikes.
- Contributors will remember that other fans may have different opinions about the characters they write about, and will try to remain impartial and diplomatic when it comes to stories that are controversial in nature.
- It is accepted that in long-running soaps, romantic pairings tend to change as time goes by. Contributors may certainly write about the significance of their favorite characters’ relationships and how they affected that character, but should refrain from statements that imply certain pairings are “right” or “wrong” and should respect the show as seen.
- When a favorite character does something that seems out-of-character, the contributor should not “bash” or degrade the show but try to find reasons or explanations for the character’s actions based on past story lines and current events in the fictional story. If this is impossible, criticism should be well-thought, constructive, and easy for other fans to understand.
- Above all, fans and contributors should respect and support each other,One Life to Live, the production, the characters, and the actors who put so much work into bringing us these stories.
Most importantly, this blog is a place for fans to come together and have fun celebrating the people who make the world of Llanview go round!
